there are so many preferable, more essential areas to prioritise - a flag does not even begin to appear.

This is absolutely ridiculous to think that such an initiative would cost more than maybe R200 000. Were do you even get these figures from?

Education and health care would be where this huge amount of money should be spent - paying teachers and doctors and nursing staff a better wage for all they do.

How can the politicians sleep at night dreaming up such wasteful expenditure while children go without food in this country - and many lack education

It boggles the mind that such a plan can even be discussed in this world economic meltdown. In Africa that the issue would be suggested is ludicrous . There is so much need and so much suffering to be alleviated, not to mention the debt owed by our country to the world powers.

Durban is a cess pool. The air stinks of human feases. No clean up after flood. People living in drains, living under city buildings stealing water pipes and electrical cables.

It will be a waste of our tax payers money.
There is no need for a flag to be created for a person to see from the space.

Rather use the money to pay back debt and fix our beautiful country.

That is more important.

Erecting a new flag is completely unnecessary and a waste of money. The money can be put to much better use

No I do not support the Department spending R22 million on a Monumental flag.
Think how many mouths could get a meal, have a blanket to sleep warm. Shame on those minister/s for even investigating such a project and shame on the person/s suggested this notion.

I believe the budget could be better spent on Other.

This is a total waste of public funds. Direct development of sport and culture in all societies, especially dealing with the effect Covid-19 and lockdown had on them. There are so many other worthy and critical projects that could also benefit from this R 22 million Rand wastage. The list is not comprehensive but what about housing for the poor, roads without dying on it (e.g. potholes), municipal service delivery and not for extra salaries (e.g., clean water, electricity, maintenance, etc.), food assistance to the poor, reduction of state debt, etc. There are enough other money wasted already or misplaced.

Our people and country are in need of many things, food, homes, infrastructure upkeep and so much more. To waste money on a flag when the people of our country are suffering would in my opinion be a misappropriation of funding.

The 22 million could basically be used in any of the above sections as government has managed to break all of them. Public pride can only improve once there is something to be proud of.

In a country with runaway unemployment, a folding economy resulting from rampant corruption and total lack of management skills in government, fly-by-night ideas based on failed ideology have jo place - exactly what this flag joke is. It has no return on investment or grounding as community project with any advantage whatsoever and should not have featured amongst the top 100 ridiculous ideas for expenditure. Fill up some potholes rather and hire guards to protect Eskom facilities against saboteurs.

The ANC clearly don't give a dam about the people and have no clue how to run a country. They are far more interested in they way they are perceived than the reality. Having this flag put in place is an insult to the people's intelligence.
