Fracking is a mess worldwide. Lower areas will be polluted. The rainfall is way to scarce to repair the damage. The karoo suffers enough from natural disasters to accommodate the additional greed of mainly the fucking ANC destroying anything in their way. Imported gas and whatever is sufficient. We cant afford another disaster.

IS THIS NOT AT LEAST THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RAISED???
When will it enter the heads of the people who appear to want to destroy our country that fracking will pollute and destroy our water resources. Does nobody know that we are an extremely water scarce country and have been for decades. We have had an enormous population growth in the Gauteng region, in particular, during the last few years: places that were put aside as "nature reserves" have since been reclassified as housing areas, fueled by greedy land developers. We do not have the water we had before, it is diminishing daily, and then we have those who do not think enough before justifying the ruining of our most precious, most important life-giving source, for the sake of "possibly" finding oil, yet we'll end up with the destruction of this country.
PLEASE THINK PROPERLY BEFORE CONTINUING WITH THIS FRUITLESS EXERCISE.
We can SURELY obtain oil and gas from places that have enough to sell to us, without going to these devastating measures.
Without water, our beautiful South Africa will become a dry, uninhabited ghost land.

Fracking is bad for the environment. It messes with nature and causes geological problems.

Los ons mooie land uit julle het al so te sê als leeg gesuig. Daar is altyd nagevolge as jy die aarde omdolwe en ons mense betaal altyd die prys nie die rykes wat mag en rykdom aanbid nie.

If we do not learn from our history we will be doomed to repeat it

Hydraulic fracturing of all forms has had numerous cover-ups where as the people making reports of the dangers of fracturing get paid large amounts of money after signing NDA’a. All land damaged in areas on after fracturing get purchased by the companies fracturing these areas
As a long term result the land will become a waist-land – all future generations of children will see us for the short minded barbarians which we have become.
Do you want South Africa to become a waist-land

DAFF regulations should be 1 paragraph; Both offshore and onshore fracturing of any kind will be prohibited in all ways and forms in the area known as South Africa. Zero exceptions will be made, no negotiations will be entertained. Fracturing within a 200km area on bordering countries will be considered as a act of aggression to our land as such will be met with force to stop such activities

This slaps the "government's" very public show of concern for our environment soundly in their faces. Look at non-poluting or land eroding wind and solar energy and not fossil fuels.

The major issue is the integrity of both the operators and the government supervision. Impartial experienced OVERSEAS inspectors should check. Also, drilling normal holes for hydro-geological studies should be included so as to mitigate the risk of interfering with aquifers.
IN addition, there are insufficient safeguards for the disposal of fracking chemicals. This must be clearly spelled out.
