There is no doubt that South Africa needs an effective waste management strategy and legislation to support that strategy. The concern regarding this legislation is that it is devoid of real detail and grants far too power to the various organs of state to pretty well do what they like (or don't like) with no accountability built into the system

The past years have resulted in much talk about waste management. Refuse removal trucks seem to have been upgraded some what. There are many dumping sites throughout SA still not being utilised. I have seen no recycling efforts implimented which have been spoken about by Government and local municipalitis. This new idea is sure only to address how to increase fees from citizens for another hot air idea.

I find the policy as presented vague and yet more waste of tax payers money. We must aim for 100% recycling. Yet it seems most people are just happy enough to drop their waste where they are. There is no organised recycling efforts anywhere in my town.

I would be happy to support a revised and updated National Waste Management Strategy PROVIDED there were FEASIBLE and IMPLEMENTABLE solutions to the waste management problems this country faces. I fail to see any type of feasible solutions in the current draft NWMS.
