The Government has behaved like puppets dancing to the tune of the powers that think they can be. They have behaved corruptly with no truthful care of the Citizens they are meant to serve and not control as they so wish. They have shown themselves to be corrupt, careless, draconian, totalitarian, insensitive, careless and so much more.
completely unnecessary
It is all coming to light that measures taken were used for ulterior motives of an evil nature and agenda. Measures that have not helped but harmed.

The incessant quest to keep the country in a state of emergency allowing for ministers to make decisions without the usual scrutiny was a red flag from day one. Early studies showed the lockdowns didn't help with curbing the virus. The UIF and TERS funds help absolutely nothing as it was yet another vehicle for ANC corruption to steal wherever they could. The dodgy ppe tenders etc. etc. We still don't know where more than R600B went to, this government is the worst thing that has happened to this country.
completely unnecessary
Only the vulnerable showing symptoms should have been isolated and pre hospitalization treatments done to avoid overcrowding them. Businesses could have continued and we wouldn't have lost so many of them and the jobs that goes along with them. Many studies show that masks do very little to contain the virus and is spread by inhalation not by touch. The sanitation of everything is uneccessary. The temperature scans are useless as it is taken externally and cannot give you an accurate internal raised temperature that a fever would show. It's all a very effective money making scheme. Ppe, sanitation, tests, vaccines ( it's not really a vaccine as it only treats the severity of symptoms and doesn't halt transmission, doesn't give immunity, it's simply a type of medicine)

The first casualties in this pandemic were the truth and scientific facts. The ANC government are clearly pawns dancing to the pipes of Big Pharma interests lining their pockets - as it sadly is the state of affairs in many countries around the world. Even if the (reputable, quality) science agreed with their policies and measures (which it does not), the bottom line is, the government (and whoever else) can ask and recommend you to lock down, but they can not force and enforce it. They can ask and recommend that you wear a mask, but they can not force and enforce it. They can ask and recommend that you don't go to the beach, but they can not force and enforce it. They can ask and recommend that you become a guinea pig in a dangerous medical experiment, but they can not force and enforce it. The government has seriously stepped over the line on these matters. I sincerely hope the ANC pays very dearly for it. We all know how useless the police are at fighting actual crime, but then the police harass innocent people who do not comply to their constitutional rights being infringed by out-of-bounds government. The power to commit these atrocities should be permanently removed from government!

The government can ask and recommend, but they can not forcefully infringe on constitutional rights of freedom (of movement), bodily autonomy/integrity, etc.

The response was too severe and damaged our economy beyond repair.

COVID-19 is just a very bad flue, we've had bad flues since the beginning of time. More people die annually of other deseases, so the regulations doesn't make sense.

The pandemic is bogus and rules/regulations to flatten the curve, avoid congestion at hospitals, and prevent the spread of a mild virus have proved completely baseless in the past 2 years.

Refer to draconian measures instituted by the Roman Empire from Augustus Caesar to Nero.
