It seems like a fairly tale situation on facevalue, but it would lead to a weaker South Africa and it would lead to an weaker situation economiclly and politically of other smaller states. The problem with Africa is that there are too many small states that exist and want independence, in the end it results in a weaker state, smaller with a higher state civil expendeture than before the state was part of the larger parant state. Examples include the civil wars in smaller new states following the break up of the Soviet Union, the break up of Yugoslavia, South Sudan being separated from Sudan. One break up just leads to more breakups. Most African states are landlocked and their independence makes economic intercourse more difficult and only benifits the elites ruling those dysfunctional states. Take the independent Zimbabwe for example, from bad to worse to terreble to horrible. It doesn't end there. The rest of the South African should have a say if an area wants to separate, not just the region. |
