The Overberg District 🍇 municipalities generally follow a disciplined approach compared to the northern provinces, but they are currently moving toward “Cost-Reflective” tariffs. This means they are trying to align your bill exactly with what it costs them to buy and deliver the service.

    THE INCREASES ARE AS FOLLOWS

    Staff salaries 4.75%

Electricity Property Rates 🏠 Water 💧 Refuse & Sewer 🗑️
    Overstrand (Hermanus) 8.5% 5.0% 5.0% 5.0%
    Cape Agulhas (Bredasdorp) 10.92% 4.5% 4.5% 4.5%
    Swellendam 9.01% ~8.5% ~5.5% ~5.5%
    Theewaterskloof (Caledon) 9.01% ~5.5% ~5.0% ~5.0%
    Staff Salary Increase 4.75% 4.75% 4.75% 4.75%
      • Overstrand’s 4-Year Plan: Overstrand is currently in Year 3 of a four-year “Cost of Supply” implementation. While the 8.5% electricity hike is lower than the Eskom bulk increase (9.01%), they are aggressively auditing meters to ensure every household is on the “correct” tariff for their usage capacity. 🕵️‍♂️
      • Swellendam’s Rates Leap: Swellendam is projecting property rates revenue growth of around 8.5%, which is significantly higher than the 4.75% salary increase they are giving their own staff. 👔
      • Cape Agulhas Electricity: Their 10.92% electricity hike is one of the highest in the district, as they attempt to catch up on infrastructure maintenance backlogs in rural areas. 🚜
