The Overberg District 🍇 municipalities generally follow a disciplined approach compared to the northern provinces, but they are currently moving toward “Cost-Reflective” tariffs. This means they are trying to align your bill exactly with what it costs them to buy and deliver the service.

- Overstrand’s 4-Year Plan: Overstrand is currently in Year 3 of a four-year “Cost of Supply” implementation. While the 8.5% electricity hike is lower than the Eskom bulk increase (9.01%), they are aggressively auditing meters to ensure every household is on the “correct” tariff for their usage capacity. 🕵️♂️
- Swellendam’s Rates Leap: Swellendam is projecting property rates revenue growth of around 8.5%, which is significantly higher than the 4.75% salary increase they are giving their own staff. 👔
- Cape Agulhas Electricity: Their 10.92% electricity hike is one of the highest in the district, as they attempt to catch up on infrastructure maintenance backlogs in rural areas. 🚜
