A school is the heart of a community. And any caring community would do their best for the children attending that school. The state should govern state affairs to the best of their ability and should not interfere or have the right to deside whether communities have development centres, how to run them, wether teachers will be paid exstra for coaching or weekend classes. |

Parents must retain a meaningful voice in their children's education, and SGB elections and decision-making must remain transparent, fair and democratic. I also strongly oppose the normalisation of weekend classes. Weekends should give learners time to complete homework, revise and reinforce what they learned during the week, rest and spend time with their families. More hours in the classroom do not automatically result in better education. Government should focus on improving the quality of teaching, providing adequate resources and infrastructure, and supporting learners during the normal school week, rather than relying on additional regulations and extended school hours. SGBs should be accountable where they fail, but intervention must be based on clear criteria and due process and should not be used to remove legitimate community participation. Our children need better education—not simply more school hours and more bureaucracy.
