      • Dawid Kruiper’s 14% Shock: Dawid Kruiper (NC087) is the district’s “Electricity King” this year. Their proposed 14% electricity hike for domestic users is nearly triple the 4.75% staff salary increase. They cite a Cost of Supply (CoS) study to justify the markup over the Eskom bulk price.
      • The Mining Buffer: Towns like Postmasburg (Tsantsabane) and Kathu are using high electricity markups to fund basic services, effectively asking residential users to cover the “revenue gap” in departments that don’t generate profit.
      • The Valuation Impact: While Dawid Kruiper has kept rates at a disciplined 3.7%, residents should check for new property valuations, as a “low” percentage hike on a higher valuation still leads to a much bigger bill.
