Mpumalanga’s three districts—Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande, and Nkangala—are presenting some of the most aggressive “Cost of Supply” corrections in the country this year. While many councils are trying to stay near the inflation target for rates, electricity is the primary “shock” factor across the province.

Mbombela Shock Stat: The 11.6% electricity hike has been met with strong opposition (led by the FF+). The council is being criticized for high overtime payments (averaging R18m p/m) while asking residents to pay double the inflation rate for power.
