Property rates
I have a problem with the rates increase as 5% is a big amount and a payment we can't reduce through less utilization. Electricity hike is very high since we have recently had hikes. Many people are already using less- and less again will mean no use. Municipality should subsidize in these hard times.

It's quite simple really. Any rate hike beyond the normal inflation rate is due to mismanagement, and it's time that government (at all levels) first rid itself of mismanagement before asking for an additional cent. The funding for this correction process can come from government's (at all levels) wage budget. Once government (at all levels) is no longer corrupt and inept, can they approach rate payers to reconsider rates hikes.

All the prices have gone up exorbitantly and the economy just can’t afford another high increase, if any at all.
The public are already battling to stay alive with the price of food and now another increase for services. No!

Our wages don't go up by that percentage. We are paying far too much as it is. Some places haven't had water or electricity for months. As frustrating as electricity cuts are, it's far worse not to have access to clean drinking water for an indefinite period. I personally feel that what we are paying right now should adequately have ALL areas falling under Ethekwini having clean drinking water and electricity. Increasing the rate is not going to solve the ineptitude problem within the Municipality. It never has.

The people of this city, and in fact, the whole country are being taxed to death. The increased are not in keeping with inflation. The problem of non payment in going to continue to increase exponentially because people cannot afford the ridiculous rates we are being charged. This is not in keeping with good governance at all.

All of the above need to be reviewed. The cost of living has gone up so fast and in every single area of our lives. Are our government trying to bankrupt their citizens? Move more people into poverty? When will our beautiful country with so much potential, be managed professionally and honestly? So sad.

No tariff should be increased until the local governments can start running their municipalities properly, giving efficient services, and ensuring the tariffs already being paid are being used exactly what they are meant for and not ending up in someone's pocket. No one can afford living in South Africa anymore due to corruption and mismanagement.
Look at the Waste by Rail mess in Knysna. Its an absolute joke.

Where do you think people must get this money from. Pensioners live on fixed income.
