2025-12-31 10:38:50 +02:00 | Corlia | No I do not | Special education needs | Number of teachers and class size | To ensure quality of education, multiple studies have shown that an acceptable ratio is one teacher per 10 learners. As a teacher myself, it is an impossible task (especially for Grade R teachers) to be one teacher and have 30 learners in your class. Each learner needs individual attention to assist with developing basic and neccessary skills to flourish in Primary School and beyond. Without that one-on-one contact, learners will struggle throughought Grade 1-12 and beyond. I am currently a Grade 1 teacher and have to teach the learners how to read and write. I have seen the impact and difference it makes in having 40 learners in a class versus 10 learners. The system is setting learners up to fail, rather than excell. It is truly devastating. |

2025-12-28 22:34:15 +02:00 | Juan | No I do not | Authority to admit learners by HOD | Number of teachers and class size | No, I do not support the proposed BELA regulations. These regulations excessively centralise control over admissions and capacity in the hands of provincial departments, eroding the autonomy of School Governing Bodies and parental involvement. This risks undermining school diversity, cultural and language preferences, and effective management, while potentially leading to overcrowding and lower education standards. South Africa’s schools need community empowerment, not further state overreach. |

2025-12-14 11:10:49 +02:00 | Wimpie | No I do not | Other | Other | There are MANY concerns with the BELA bill. To single out one concern is to not give adequate significance to the other important concerns as well. Instead of breaking another entity/system that works. Rather fix the non-functional parts. Stated differently, instead of creating a plethora of new problems, rather fix those that are problematic. |

2025-12-11 23:13:26 +02:00 | DMC | No I do not | Home schooling | Other | The Bela act is a piece of legislation designed to undermine the Afrikaner nation and the Afrikaans language. It is an attempt to slowly destroy the language and Culture of the Afrikaner I will not support it. I will also not support it due to government trying to intervene in Homeschooling and what children should think (indoctrination). Lastly the SA education system is sub-par in relation to the rest of the world. |

2025-12-11 07:08:59 +02:00 | Carl | No I do not | Authority to admit learners by HOD | Number of teachers and class size | I do not support the current regulatory proposals issued under the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act (BELA Act), gazetted by the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, for public comment. Although presented as measures to address classroom sizes and admission policies, these regulations arise from a highly contested Act that many stakeholders believe centralises power within the national department at the expense of school communities, parents and governing bodies. The regulations, as released, may significantly limit the autonomy of schools to manage admissions and resource planning in ways that reflect their unique contexts. Centralised control over admissions risks undermining community involvement, weakening school governance structures and reducing the ability of governing bodies to act in the best interests of learners. Concerns also remain that the broader BELA framework may pave the way for further regulations that erode parental rights and diminish the role of School Governing Bodies in key decisions. While effective management of class sizes and equitable admissions is important, solutions must strengthen—not replace—local governance and constitutional principles of cooperative decision-making. I therefore urge the Minister and the Department to reconsider these regulations and ensure that any final rules protect school autonomy, parental rights and meaningful community participation. |
