All Parents should have the right to choose the best way of education for their child. A child is an individual and so the way we learn, play and do life. The Government should salute those Parents who choose a different way of learning for their family for it is not wrong. It is MOST DEFINITELY WRONG not to except those learners into Universities, that IS DISCRIMINATION depriving the future of our Country an education. This is NOT democratic at all.

Registration of home learners
The Department of Education wants to make changes to a law on home education, a modality of education that they do not understand. The Minister acknowledged that no research has been done on home education, whilst the Social Economic Impact Assessment System(SEIAS) Guidelines requires research. This is only one of the procedural flaws in the drafting of the Bill.

Governance of School Governing Bodies
A one-size-fits-all approach is not going to work well in our country and will negatively affect schools and home schools that are actually doing great work.
No one minister should get to decide how all schools should run.
We are a diverse nation with diverse needs.

Registration of home learners
Good Day,

My concerns are that the BELA Bill grants Education Departments powers to set aside parents' decisions on home education, a power typically reserved for courts. It will leave parents needing permission to educate their own children while some education departments struggle to place learners in schools.
Moreover the BELA Bill also outlaws curriculums which do not cover acquisition of content and skills comparable to the national curriculum which i feel should be the parent's own choice

The BELA Bill also requires home educators to subject their children to external assessments, without any research into the feasibility and affordability of such a mandate.

I do not agree with the amendments that are proposed and hope that the department would listen to the people and listen to the voices of its people before they change something that would go agains the rights of the people.

Compulsory attendance
Children who encounter learning challenges due to medical learning disabilities or an inability to access a school due to location or the school's inability to provide for the school, should be able to attend home schooling that is properly registered and managed. Those financially disadvantaged should need to provide at least stationary and some learning support for their children. This way, there is incentive to encourage the child to work hard and pass and not merely attend school because they are required to. Remember, an educated child becomes an educated adult who will become a productve member of society.

There are too many grey, undefined areas. There are also an attempt to give too much power to government employees who have proved in the last 30 years of democracy that they cannot govern schools in a way that it would be for the better development of our education system. The educational system has taken a nosedive in the last 30 years - the schools that are known to be the better schools are the ones governed by people who wants to work hard to ensure a better education for our children so that they can compete for jobs and be the best at what they do. Government should focus on cutting corruption so that there is budget to develop the education system to the better of all children in South Africa.
Allow those who have the best interest of our children at heart to do what they do best - and don't make education a ball played in a game with a political agenda.

Compulsory attendance
To jail parents for non-attendance is to break down the development teaching puts into a society.
Robbing a teacher of their means of income is counterproductive to the well-being of the community and extended family as a whole.

I also object to further interference in the roles of governing bodies and promote their development in underprivileged learning environments.

Los ons skole uit. Bou nuwes waar julle dan die taal van jul keuse kan praat. Los die Afrikaanse skole uit. Ons kinders presteer beter as die engelse kinders, in elke geval. Hou regering uit die skole. Laat gemeenskappe hul skole bestuur. Elke kultuur kan sy eie skole bestuur. So word kultuur bevorder. Daar is nog baie ander dinge wat verkeerd is, maar los die skole uit om self te bestuur.

Compulsory attendance
I think parents who deny their children to go to school for their selfish and self-serving reasons should be punished harshly. This has a negative effect on our education system and therefore it shouldn't be left unattended.

Compulsory attendance
Compulsary attendance along with the registration of home schooling is of significant concern to me. Under the constitution freedom of religion is a core pillar and being able to school my children under the longstanding teachings and traditions of our faith is of parramount importance. Compulsary attendacnce of Government schooling without the right to self-schooling under religious teaching guidance is a violation of our religious rights. We request that teaching and schooling under religious schooling be exempt with no requirement to register as we cannot expect a religious way teaching to be fit into a standard governance process. Thank you and God bless you with desernment in this matter.

For more that 25 years the ANC government failed to improve the education for the majority of the learners. The problem with this new law is that it will now destroy the little of what is still functioning. This is not about improving education but centralizing more and more powers to the politicians.
