The US Proposal to Exclude South Africa from AGOA
Following South Africa’s official condemnation of the U.S. operation in Venezuela, a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has formally submitted the “AGOA Integrity & Accountability Act of 2026” to the U.S. Congress.
The Act seeks to immediately initiate an “Out-of-Cycle Review” of South Africa’s eligibility for AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act). The submission cites “repeated diplomatic alignment with adversaries of the United States” as grounds for disqualification.
The Impact: AGOA provides duty-free access to the U.S. market for thousands of South African products. If South Africa is excluded, industries such as automotive manufacturing (BMW, Ford, Toyota), citrus farming, and wine exports will face significant tariffs. Analysts estimate this could risk over 65,000 direct jobs and billions of Rands in export revenue.
Your Role: International relations are usually handled by the state, but when the outcome affects your livelihood, you have a right to be heard.
We will collate these comments and present them directly to the SA Department of International Relations (DIRCO) and the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria to show where the citizens of South Africa stand.

Have your say – influence the decision.
To make the report impactful, we need more than just “Yes/No.” We need to show the U.S. and DIRCO that the citizenry is distinct from the ruling party’s ideology.
