2026-02-04 08:15:08 +02:00 | Johan | All of the above | Replace the government with capable politicians that have RSA interests at heart. Cut the entire government numbers. Send all non documented foreigners back to their countries at their country 's expense. Remove ALL luxuries from prisons and employ them on infrastructure projects.
2026-02-04 08:14:33 +02:00 | BRETT | 6. Tax revenues | The tax system is complex and designed to extricate as much of an individual or company's taxable earnings which will lead to a shrinking tax base as there are other opportunities in other tax jurisdictions in the world which are more favourable. I propose a flat income tax rate of 15% across the board for all companies and individuals. That includes the taxi industry and other informal sectors top to bottom. Any person earning an income of any amount should be taxed the same rate. The reality is this, a small percentage of the population that earns a taxable income are funding the rest of the population which is not sustainable. Every human in good health, has the capacity to be resourceful and contribute to their community and the country. There has to be a balance. By introducing a flat tax rate to all earning an income will then increase the tax revenue. Those who do not earn an income and are capable of providing a service or product should not be allowed to vote. We can't have nonproductive citizens dictating policies with their votes and making demands when they do not even contribute in any shape way or form to the economy. You pay tax, you earn the right to vote.
2026-02-04 08:14:24 +02:00 | B | Other | I think focus on expenditure initially numbers 2 7 and 8. Clean up house first and much will fall into place. If you focus on everything nothing will get done
2026-02-04 08:13:19 +02:00 | Andre | 1. The economy and fiscus | As we approach the upcoming national budget, I would like to encourage a strong focus on measures that can support sustainable economic growth and long‑term fiscal health for South Africa. Our economy needs a clear, credible path that restores confidence, attracts investment, and creates opportunities for citizens across all sectors. A few areas deserve particular attention: Reducing Government Debt: A disciplined approach to managing and reducing public debt will help stabilise the fiscal outlook and free up resources for productive investment. A credible debt‑reduction strategy can also strengthen investor confidence and lower borrowing costs over time. Prioritising Efficient Government Spending: Ensuring that public funds are used effectively and directed toward high‑impact programmes is essential. Reducing wasteful expenditure and improving accountability can create fiscal space without compromising essential services. Infrastructure Development: Strategic investment in infrastructure—transport, energy, digital networks, and logistics—remains one of the most powerful levers for economic growth. Well‑planned infrastructure projects can stimulate job creation, improve competitiveness, and support long‑term productivity. Strengthening Education and Skills Development: A modern, competitive economy depends on a skilled workforce. Continued investment in education, vocational training, and innovation will help equip South Africans for emerging industries and support inclusive growth. Focusing on Long‑Term Growth: Beyond short‑term pressures, the budget should outline a clear vision for structural reforms that promote entrepreneurship, expand industrial capacity, and support small and medium‑sized businesses. By prioritising these areas, the budget can help lay the foundation for a more resilient, dynamic, and inclusive economy. I hope these considerations will form part of the national conversation as we work toward a stronger economic future for South Africa.

2026-02-04 08:10:47 +02:00 | Eileen | All of the above | Get rid of the corrupt ANC government that is holding this country captive, and things will improve drastically. As someone said - any party with a spear in its logo should GO.

2026-02-04 08:09:50 +02:00 | leong | All of the above | Do not cut budget on education. Reduce foreign aids & use this money on a better cause at home. Cut unnecessary spending like bailing out SOEs and municipalities. Stop corruptions on SOEs & Municipalities who are defaulting due to incapabilities/corruptions of the government officials working there. Problem is most government officials working in Municipalities/government offices are not qualified for the jobs. Plug the above mentioned holes with the might of law and once corruptions stop, the country will be in a better shape.
2026-02-04 08:09:39 +02:00 | Colin | Other | Bad Management by the ANC. They should be charged as Delinquent Directors.
2026-02-04 08:09:06 +02:00 | JJ | 2. Government Spending | Firstly and foremostly. They need to WAKE UP. Apart from that each ministers/deputy must get 1 (ONE) task at a time. Multiple task running is method they use to hide that they are doing nothing. Pick 1 thing and if they fail at that they are out. No salary increases for 5 years. They must buy their own cars. If they can't afford it they can Uber. They must pay rent while living in government housing. No security details.

2026-02-04 08:08:39 +02:00 | Francois | All of the above | SOE's continue to drain the fiscus with corruption, incompetent leadership and cronyism creating a disabling environment for almost all of these entities. Open the door to Private partnerships, but rid the SOE's of cadre leadership and reduce procurement fraud. Invest in Water infrastructure, Teacher, Nurse and Technical training colleges, not outsource. Sort out the Ports! Reduce Cabinet size. reduce cabinet salaries to lead by example, Move Government to Pretoria to reduce double spend on Ministerial homes, unlock latent Government office and houses for private sale in Cape Town. Spend more on Education and Health, encourage youth to move into technical fields, plumbing, electricians, TEACHERS, Nurses, vet assistants, Agriculture. Offer scholarships for after school learning for National Service repayment.
2026-02-04 08:08:21 +02:00 | Tristan | All of the above | All very obvious suggestions. 1. Drop all the ridiculous labour laws that are deterring private sector from hiring people. Make It easy to hire and fire. Bring back probation periods. Work is a privilege not a right. 2. Government is way too bloated. Cut all the fat. Follow point 1 above the jobs will come from the private sector 3. Drop BEE and the AFFIRMATIVE ACTION policies. All tenders must be based on merit and performance. Drop the 10% built in black inflation policy for tenders 4. Fire anyone that has been implicated in corruption. No suspension with PAY. The burden of proof must lay with the accused. If you are innocent.. it must be easy tp prove it. 5. Stop protecting political elite from prosecution. 6. Allow People to install Solar power with no red tape or penalties. Eskom needs to run on its own steam. Be more competitive. 7. Stop bailing out all SOEs. Public funds must not be used to correct ANC failures. 8. Bring starlink into South Africa so the rural schools can benefit. 9. Drop the NHI bill completely. Focus on fixing the current system, infrastructure . NHI does not work. even I countries that can afford it. 10. Drop all expropriation act completely. Give foreign companies the confidence to invest here. 11. The list is endless! Bit obvious and implementable tomorrow. Stop the communist protectionist, nationalist nonsense. 12. Re establish relationships with the WEST!!! The west is the key to prosperous society.
2026-02-04 08:08:14 +02:00 | Clive | All of the above | Sell all SOE's. Reduce the size of government. Start with firing all Deputy Ministers. Control all government spending from Treasury. Municipalities should have no control over finances as this is where all the corruption is taking place. Close all avenues of corruption by centralizing all Government payments.

2026-02-04 08:07:31 +02:00 | Christa | 2. Government Spending | Government should start to learn how to NOT steal anymore, because this is the direct result of why SA is in the state that it currently is
2026-02-04 08:07:29 +02:00 | Graham | All of the above | Everything only improves with accountability. No control - no going forward. Stop looking at external sources of funding (Taxes) and clean up house...
2026-02-04 08:07:23 +02:00 | ALPHEEN | 6. Tax revenues | In the good old days, the Revenue service, brought in concessions to encourage manufacturing plants to purchase plant and machinery plus they were given an initial allowance as well. These allowances were anyhow recouped if and when the plant was resold. In turn, manufacturing enterprises were encouraged. We were able to manufacture goods in our own contry. There were jobs available. The spin off brought in more revenue than the allowance they gave to Enterprises.
2026-02-04 08:06:19 +02:00 | Lesedi | 5. Energy and water investments | With new residential complexes being built in the urban areas, our water infrastructure cannot keep up with the increasing demands. Water cuts are now frequent and extremely disruptive. Investment in water infrastructure is essential and urgent.
2026-02-04 08:06:06 +02:00 | Hansi | All of the above | 1) All govt and non critical state employees should take a 50% sakary reduction 2) All deputy ministers should be made redundant and removed. 3) All municipality that are not audit compliance should be shut down . Community run maintenance will do a far superior job. 4) Reduce university graduates and increase technical students. 5) All blue light brigade to be reduced 6) Raf should have a capped payment and lawyers maxed at 10% of payment. 7) BEE should be scrapped, only govt buddies and cadres benefit. Public gains nothing. 8) Taxi industry should pay tax like all other businesses. 9) All public schools should be free . Thank you.

2026-02-04 08:05:12 +02:00 | James | All of the above | Drastically reduce the bloated government personnel and associated salaries both national and provincial . Employ competent employees and not family members and get rid of as much of our debt as possible . Lastly ensure cash only businesses pay tax to SARS instead of cheating the system
2026-02-04 08:04:54 +02:00 | Leonard | All of the above | To fix this whole problem is very easy... every government employee... from president to sweeper and yourself gets fired and can never again have anything to do with governing. The new people takinging over will only be a 10th of what is already in the game and there salaries is minimum wage as they are there for the people not themselves. Problem fixed in under 48 hours
2026-02-04 08:04:47 +02:00 | Marzanne | 2. Government Spending | Government officials in high positions should all take salary cuts. Their salary should be market related and based on their performance the previous year. Municipal spending should be audited to ensure finances are not stolen. All Tenders and those responsible should be audited by third parties to ensure work gets done and that it is charged at reasonable rates. Those convicted of murder in our prisons should be executed. Urgent Resources should be spent on water systems, as without water no industry can move forward, and the whole economy will collapse. Investment should go towards nuclear energy, as this is the cleanest and most stable type of energy. BEE laws should be reduced to increase foregn investment. The private sector should be consulted and invited to play a bigger role in all government and municipal services. All government employees should be subject to annual performance reviews and if work is unsatisfactory they should be fired. All unnecessary government soending, such as support for Gaza, name changes, donations towards nations abroad such as zimbabwe should immediately stop and all funds should be used to benefit the south african economy. Government officials should pay income tax as any other south african. Government should keep themselves to the problems of south africa and stop criticizing and saying things in tge internationa arena. This makes us look incompetent and reduces foreign investment. No resources should go in the development of any new laws. Investment should only go towards enforcing current laws. All laws that are not obeyed, cuplprits should be fined.
2026-02-04 08:03:15 +02:00 | Ernest | All of the above | Reduce government spending, cut, deputy ministers, cut protection of ministers and other important people " where's the danger, how many life threatening incidents have there been?". Appointment financially sound officials where government money must be accounted for. Privatize state owned entities to become more efficient, streamlined and less dependant on state bailouts.
2026-02-04 08:03:10 +02:00 | Neil | All of the above | Unfortunately, cutting expenses alone will not close the deficit. What is needed is policy changes. Policy changes: - Too many government departments and a bloated cabinet. - Privatize SOEs, overspending through exploited tender processes and corruption, can then be put to a stop - Address corruption in the health sector where medical supplies & equipment are sold at inflated prices because suppliers paid 'consultancy' fees to officials & hospital managers. The tender process does not get South African the best bang for their buck. It has become a means for government official to line their pockets and that of the cronies. Here are some suggestions for cuts: - VIP protection services should only be reserved for the President and key ministers. - Reduce ministerial budgets, no new cars, no entourages, South Africa is done paying for the lavish lifestyles of the politically elite. - Reduce the salaries of roles to similar values that exist in the private sector. It is well known that finding a cushy job in government sees one earning more than your private sector peers with little effort in performing duties. |
