There will be corruption, mismanagement, neglect and then disaster.

Use the sun and wind that we have plenty of and stay away from proven and proven again harmful methods to generate electricity.

We should rather focus on green energy.

Nuclear energy is clean, proven to be safe and if executed properly, cheaper and more reliable than coal. My concern is that if done by the Government or an SOE it will be plagued by corruption mismanagement and poor execution and operation.

Our country has already shown how poor it is when it comes tendering system, I would suggest the whole procedure to be solely run by government under the department of minerals and energy.

I personally do not believe in my government because of many lies they are giving the nation of S.A.Firstly they always saying the country doesn't have money so someone please make it clear to me and tell me where is the money now coming from - many companies and businesses are closed long way before the excuse COVID-19 came along. Government of S.A. just be open and stop doing all the wrong things and do not arrest all the culprits of corruption just strip them all their belongings because prison will not do them good and leave President Zuma alone...AMANDLA

I believe that South Africa has enough sun and wind to generate electricity using these natural resources. Thus, I would prefer that South Africa invests in environmentally friendly energy sources.

Furthermore the impact of a nuclear reactor is far reaching -
1. A reactor is very expensive to build and run. If a nuclear reactor is used for medicine manufacturing for research I can understand it - as nothing can replace these applications of neutrons - but for electricity we have many other options.
2. The long term impact is huge - in Europe they are still struggling decommissioning old reactors and the costs hereof is tremendous - people still working on this even 20 years after the plant stopped producing electricity. It is not just the fuel rods - every single part of the reactor is radioactive and contaminated with a decay time of many many years. If we can have electricity without this risk why go this route?
3. Where are SA going to get all the nuclear experts to run this safely? All the nuclear experts have left SA after Necsa lowered their capacity. Their might be newly trained nuclear students but I am doubtful whether they have the expertise to run a nuclear powerplant safely and effectively. Thus, will SA have to 'buy' experts from overseas costing us as taxpayers loads of money for many years to come?

Thus, I am not in favour of a new nuclear powerplant for South Africa - I prefer renewable energy sources, e.g. solar/wind.

South Africa has the potential to harness abundant renewable energy. We should not procure nuclear power. Nuclear is expensive, has the potential for catastrophic accidents, produces nuclear waste that has to be managed for the foreseeable future, and, has limited available fuel. For a secure energy future, South Africe should procure much more renewable energy from IPP's and decentralize our energy creation and distribution systems. This is the path to a secure energy future.

The BBEEE procurement process of the ANC Government is only there to enrich ANC carders. These people are only there to enrich themselves with no or little service delivery to the greater South African citizens and the country.

The cost of building a nuclear facility in the context of greener energy options is ridiculous. It’s not just a financial cost, but an environmental cost. In South Africa we have an abundance of sun and wind which could generate power.

The other issue top of mind is the tender process and the level of corruption at the top of government.

No SOE can be run successfully, the ANC needs to sort out its current insolvent SOE's before it procures new ones.

South Africa should be looking at new sustainable ways to produce energy. We do not need a hazardous source of energy like nuclear. It is quite evident that government cannot deal with the maintenance of essential services like water and electricity resources leave alone nuclear. I think that if we were to implement further nuclear energy retrieval we would face another Fukushima situation with far worse casualty figures.

We do not have the financial resources to fund this. We have access to other alternative energy sources. We do not have sufficient expertise to handle plant maintenance and waste disposal. Let's get our people vaccinated against covid before using resources for a potential disaster.

S A is financially in deep trouble mainly because of mismanagement of funds and te nders. We are in an economic climate where people are dying of hunger and we cant afford nuclear energy like a first world country while alternate sources of energy has not been developed at all and it is-safer than nuclear. Government cant be trusted with this untill they have proved to succeed with all the failed and bancrupt SOE ‘s

Like all state project there is so much corruption with in the tender proccess and distribution,
this is of grave concerne. How and who will oversee the free and transparent process? The state has proved that it is incable of management of any project. Who ever heads up the process must be held liable for any mismanagement in a court of law.
