New Land Expropriation Bill

88,882  active citizens had a say.

The Minister of Public Works called for public comment on the controversial Draft Expropriation Bill

Support or object to the Bill by providing comment below. Please note the comment period has ended, however, we are still encouraging comments below and will include them in the final presentation. Once you have had your say below, please keep an eye on your email for a call to comment in the final round (Dec 2019) – which will be the last opportunity for the public to influence an amendment of the constitution.

The draft law spells out in detail how land expropriation will work, detailing how valuation should be done, how disputes should be settled, and how money should be paid. The Expropriation Bill also specifically holds that “it may be just and equitable for nil compensation to be paid where land is expropriated in the public interest”. Should you be unsure, please read the live comments, media, summary or documents below.
